CHAPTER 255 An act to establish a school for the training of colored 5 teachers. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:
That it shall be the duty of the faculty of the institution to extend its influence and usefulness as far as possible to persons who are unable to avail themselves of its advantages as resident students; having respect to the claims of each county in the State. To this end they shall arrange a course of reading and study which may be pursued by others than those resident at the institution. Upon application of any colored teacher for examination, at the institution, upon this course, an examination shall be held, and if such examination prove satisfactory, the regular certificate of the institution shall be granted.
