CHAPTER 343 An act to establish graded schools in the town of Washington. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact :

That the said public school committee shall make to the board of commissioners of the town of Washington annually at the end of each school year a report containing an accurate census of the school population of the town, and showing the work done and the money expended under their direction in the town of Washington on account of the said public schools; a copy of which report shall be forwarded to the superintendent of public instruction of the state and another shall be given to the county board of education. (Board of county commissioners. ) The beginning and the end of the school year shall be fixed by the said committee, and they shall take annually an accurate census of all the children in the town of Washington between the ages of six and twenty one.
