CHAPTER 253 AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE AND EMPOWER THE MONROE GRADED SCHOOL DISTRICT TO PURCHASE PROPERTY OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR SCHOOL PUR- POSES. Whereas the Monroe Graded School District is coterminous with the city of Monroe; and whereas the trustees of said school have bargained to purchase a certain lot of land, a part of which is in the Monroe Graded School District and a part without the said school district; and whereas this is the most suitable place for the erection of a school building for the colored race; and whereas the trustees desire to erect said school building on that part of the property that is without the said school district and without the corporate limits of the city of Monroe: Now, therefore, The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

That the board of trustees of the Monroe Graded School District be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to purchase a site for a school building for the colored race in said school district and erect thereon suitable buildings outside the corporate limits of the city of Monroe and outside the limits of said Monroe Graded School District.
