CHAPTER 326 AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 843, SESSION LAWS OF 1959, RE- LATING TO THE ELECTION OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF WEST JEFFERSON, ASHE COUNTY. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

That Section 1 of Chapter 848, Session Laws of 1959, is hereby amended to read as follows: An election for the selection of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of West Jefferson shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May, 1968; the Mayor shall be elected for a term of four years. The Board of Aldermen of West Jefferson shall consist of five members. At the Town election of May, 1968, there shall be nominated and elected five members of the Board of Aldermen. The two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of four years, and the three candidates receiving the next highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of two years. In 1970 and biennially thereafter, there shall be nominated and elected members of the Board of Aldermen to take the place of the members whose terms next expire, and the persons so elected shall serve for terms of four years.
