CHAPTER 427 AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 82, PUBLIC-LOCAL LAWS OF 1937 TO PROVIDE STAGGERED TERMS FOR THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF NORTHAMPTON COUNTY. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

Chapter 82, Public-Local Laws of 1937, is hereby amended by rewriting Sections 2 and 4 to read as follows: 441 Sec. 2 The Board of County Commissioners of Northampton County shall consist of five members who shall serve for staggered terms as hereinafter provided. Sec. 4 At the primary and general election held for county officials in Northhampton County in 1968, there shall be nominated and elected five members of the Board of County Commissioners. The Commissioners elected for District No. 1 and District No. 2 shall serve for a term of four years, and until their successors are elected and qualified. The Commissioners elected for Districts Nos. 3, 4 and 5 shall serve for a term of two years, and until their successors are elected and qualified. At the primary and general election in 1970 and biennially thereafter, there shall be nominated and elected members of the Board of County Commissioners to take the place of the members whose terms next expire, and the persons so elected shall serve for terms of four years and until their successors are elected and qualified.
