CHAPTER 78 AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF WILSON IN ITS DISCRETION TO SUBMIT TO THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF WILSON THE QUESTION OF WHETHER OR NOT THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF WILSON SHOULD ENACT A SUNDAY CLOSING ORDINANCE. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:
The Board of Commissioners of the City of Wilson is hereby authorized in its discretion to submit to the people of the City of 115 Wilson the question of whether or not the Board of Commissioners of the City of Wilson should enact a Sunday closing ordinance. Such election or referendum shall be held at the general municipal election in May 1967 and shall be held under the election provisions as contained in the Charter of the City of Wilson and shall in substance submit the question of whether the electors of the City of Wilson are for the enactment of a Sunday closing ordinance or whether the electors of the City of Wilson are against the enactment of a Sunday closing ordinance. The results of such election shall not be binding upon the Board of Commissioners, but it may thenceforth exercise its legislative discretion in enacting or declining to enact a Sunday closing ordinance, or in amending or repealing such ordinance if the same be at any time enacted. The judges and other officers of election appointed for the general municipal election shall be the same for the election or referendum herein provided. Such election or referendum shall be held at the same place and in the same manner and under the same rules and regulations and subject to the same conditions, and the polls shall be opened and closed at the same hours as are required for the general election.
