CHAPTER 261 AN ACT TO REORGANIZE AND MERGE THE ANSON COUNTY AD- MINISTRATIVE SCHOOL UNIT, THE WADESBORO CITY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT AND THE MORVEN CITY SCHOOL AD- MINISTRATIVE UNIT INTO ONE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT UNDER ONE BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR ALL THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN ANSON COUNTY. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

On and after July 1, 1967, all of the public schools of Anson County shall operate as a part of the Anson County School Administrative Unit and said public schools shall be under the jurisdiction, administration and operation of the Anson County Board of Education which shall consist of seven members elected for six-year terms of office, except that the initial Board of Education which shall assume authority on July 1, 1967, shall consist of the following: Glenn K. Martin, whose term of office shall expire on the first Monday in December, 1970; G. E. Tucker, whose term of office shall expire on the first Monday in December, 1972; and J. P. Adcock, whose term of office shall expire on the first Monday in December, 1974 The above three members being from the geographical area of the present Anson County School Administrative Unit. There shall be two members from the present geographical area of the Wadesboro School Administrative Unit, as follows: J. D. McLeod, whose term of office shall expire on the first Monday in December, 1970, and James A. Hardison, Jr., whose term of office shall expire on the first Monday in December, 1972; and, two members being from the geographical area of the present Morven School Administrative Unit, as follows: W. E. Steagall, Jr., whose term of office shall expire on the first Monday in December, 1970, and, Charles Ratliff, whose term of office shall expire on the first Monday in December, 1974; or, until their successors are elected and qualified, in each and every case, as hereinafter provided. The members of said Anson County Board of Education as named in this Section shall take the oath of office on July 1, 1967, or as soon as practicable thereafter, and shall immediately organize itself by electing a chairman, vice-chairman, and such other officers as may be required and consistent with the public school law as set forth in Chapter 115 of the General Statutes, as amended. The Superintendent of Schools shall serve as secretary to the Board.
