CHAPTER 803 AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 4 OF ARTICLE II OF THE CON- STITUTION OF NORTH CAROLINA SO THAT A SENATORIAL DISTRICT CONSISTING OF ONE COUNTY SHALL NOT BE EN- TITLED TO MORE THAN ONE SENATOR IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

Section 4 of Article II of the Constitution of North Carolina is rewritten to read as follows: Sec. 4 Regulations in Relation to Districting the State for Senators. The senate districts shall be so altered by the General Assembly, at the first session after the return of every enumeration by order of Congress, that each senate district shall contain, as near as may be, an equal number of inhabitants, excluding aliens and Indians not taxed, and shall remain unaltered until the return of another enumeration, and shall at all times consist of contiguous territory; and where any senatorial district 668 consists of one county, such county shall only be entitled to one senator in the General Assembly of North Carolina; provided that in no event shall any one county be entitled to more than one senator at any one time.
