CHAPTER CXXXVIII. AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PUBLIC GRADED SCHOOLS IN THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE.

At the time designated for the aforesaid election there shall be elected by ballot two school commissioners from 43 each ward, who shall, if the majority of those voting on the aforesaid scheme shall be in favor thereof, be charged with carrying the same into effect. They shall hold office for two years, and until their successors shall be elected and qualified: Provided, That the board af aldermen may, if necessary, extend the term of those first elected beyond two years, so that the election of their successors, if said board deem it expedient, may be had on the day of the regular election of aldermen.
