CHAPTER 1 An act to amend chapter eighty of the private laws of one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact :

That chapter eighty of the private laws of one thousand eight hundred and seyenty-nine be amended by adding another section, to be known as section seven, as follows: That in case of absence or sickness, or the otherwise inability of the principal cotton weighers appointed as provided for in section one of this chapter to perform the duties of his said office, then and in that event it shall be lawful for him to appoint a deputy or assistant, who shall, before entering upon the duties of the said office, subscribe to the same oath as required of the principal by this act, and the principal and the sureties on his bond shall be responsible for the failure of the said deputy or assistant to perform his duty in the same manner as if he was the principal.
