CHAPTER 697 AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE PUBLIC ROADS OF MARION TOWNSHIP, COUNTY OF McDOWELL. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

That the said Road Commission shall have the power | and it shall be their duty to establish, build and maintain such publie roads in said township as shall be ,(leemed necessary ; to} alter and change the location and grade of any road in said township; to discontinue any road or part thereof which they may deem unnecessary; to grade and macadamize any and all roads or parts of roads in said township they may deem to the bes interests of the citizens of said township; to employ at a reasonable compensation a Supervisor for the public roads of said township; to employ a Superintendent and necessary guards to_ keep in custody and work on the said roads all such persons as have already been sentenced to work on the public roads of McDowell County and all such persons as may be hereafter sentenced } to work on said roads; to provide for the working of the said convicts on said roads to the best advantage, and for macadamizing the same; to employ a competent engineer to assist in the location or improvement of any road in said township; to do any and all things necessary to be done for the maintenance and bet- terment of the public roads in said township.
