CHAPTER 952 AN ACT TO AMEND THE LAWS OF NORTH CAROLINA RELATING TO PERSONS WITH MENTAL DISEASES AND TO PROVIDE FOR COMMITTING SUCH PERSONS TO INSTITUTIONS FOR OBSERVATION TO DETER- MINE THEIR MENTAL CONDITION. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

That Section one hundred and twenty-two seventynine of the General Statutes of North Carolina is hereby amended by striking out the phrase in private hospital in line five and inserting in lieu thereof the phrase the private hospital to which the person is to be committed. That Section one hundred and twenty-two seventy-nine of the General Statutes of North Carolina is further amended by striking out the phrase a justice of the peace or in line eight. That Section one hundred and twenty-two seventy-nine of the General Statutes of North Carolina is further amended by rewriting the third sentence of said section to read as follows: The clerk may, as he sees fit, order any mentally disordered person to be taken to a private hospital within the State instead of to one of the State hospitals and his warrant shall be sufficient authority for holding such mentally disordered person in such private hospital. That Section one hundred and twenty-two seventy-nine of the General Statutes of North Carolina is hereby amended by striking out the word insane in lines ten, twelve, twenty-one, thirtyone and thirty-five and inserting in lieu thereof the words mentally disordered. That Section one hundred and twenty-two seventy-nine of the General Statutes of North Carolina is hereby amended by striking out the word idiots, in line thirty-two and inserting in lieu thereof the words mental defectives.
